Pierre Amiel Born in Perpignan, of a Chinese mother (Song) and a Catalonian father, Pierre Amiel spent his early childhood in Germany returning to his birthplace at the age of 11. At the age of 16, after having done his apprenticeship in drawing, copying of the masters, assiduously and unendingly reproducing the minutest details of his models he starts to spend more and more time with the artists of “Saint Vicens” art centre and discovers ceramics and oil painting. The young man that was being noticed for meticulously reproducing each blade of grass made the leap of conviction : oil painting would be his means of expression ! Little by little he frees himself from the straight jacket of reality seeking to express the invisible, the unbelievable, emotion ... Living in Paris he hangs out in the squats of “Quai de la Gare” and the “Frigo.” From 1980 to 1983 he becomes a part of the group “Jeune Peinture, Jeune Expression” (Young Painting, Young Expression) and participates with it in exhibitions in the Grand Palais in Paris. He has exhibitions in Vernon in 1984 and in Chartres in 1984 and 1985. At which point he decides to cease showing his work all the while continuing to explore his artistic universe which leads him to a more and more abstract presentation. He moves to London in 1997 where he passes several years, and there in the manner of the ancient Chinese artists realises that his Art has reached maturity, from this decision several exhibitions in Europe and Asia result. Some seek influences of other artists, Pierre Amiel prefers to cite a film, “Paris Texas” by Wim Wenders, because he feels a closeness to “drifters” who traverse, with no concern for time, wide empty peaceful expanses where passion is never far. Pierre Amiel has been back living and working in Paris since 2002, his work can be seen in his Parisian workshop. |
